red wine

Vinho Tinto – Continente!

Let’s face it, when a wine costs less than 80 euro cents, you’ve got to at least give it a go, and I take the attitude that I can always use it to add weight to a stew or something if it isn’t too good. These cartons from Continente contain a full litre of some unspecified Portuguese red wine for 79 cents. Initial impressions were not particularly favourable – the smell is fairly unpleasant, but, surprisingly, the taste was a lot better than the smell. I can’t be hugely descriptive, it tasted like cheap red wine, but we expected to use it for cooking and drank the rest of the carton, so it can’t have been that bad!

PRICE: €0.79!!

MY VERDICT: 5.5/10

SECOND OPINION (The Wife): Slightly rough, and far from an amazing wine, but when you consider the cost and the fact it is probably better than a fair few 6 quid bottles in England you can’t go far wrong. 6/10
