Restaurant Review – Nagoya, Tavira

Nagoya Tavira Sushi

Nagoya is a recent arrival on the Tavira restaurant scene, having taken over the premises of the previous Chinese restaurant (Dong Cheng). It has an extensive menu of Chinese and Japanese food, including classics such as chicken teriyaki (delicious) and several garlic and spice-packed sizzling dishes.

For me, the particularly exciting thing about Nagoya is the sushi. Nagoya’s selection is impressive, with over half the menu dedicated to sushi and sashimi. Made at the counter while you wait, the fish is sparklingly fresh and the sushi is clearly made with pride.

All-you-can-eat prices are available for lunch and dinner (€11.90 and €13.90 respectively at the time of writing), or you can pay a per-item price (around €6.90 for the dishes we have tried) if you just fancy a snack. The all-you-can-eat price is great for a night out with friends, as it provides the chance to sample a number of the dishes without worrying about the final bill. Desserts are included in the price too, with choices including green tea ice cream, lychees and fruit salad.

My love of sushi means that I’m going to be eating at/getting takeaway from Nagoya an awful lot. Thankfully the sushi combo dish is incredible value – €6.90 for around 20 pieces of sushi and 6 of sashimi, which come beautifully presented and with generous portions of wasabi and ginger included.

As the only sushi restaurant in Tavira, Nagoya is an excellent addition and one that now sits firmly at the top of my list of takeaway options. In fact, just writing this review makes me think that I might have to pop there for a quick sushi combo lunch today…
